Training for the Adventure

Day 2 – 3/14 – Driving the RV (Milwaukee WI) I had breakfast with Gabby in the hotel and then we drove to the MS Run the US office to meet Ashley and Hailey so we could go pick up the RV. They taught us how to hook up the car to the RV and then Gabby drove it to go get lunch. We had Mexican food and then after that I drove it for the first time. It was definitely weird, the steering wheel felt like it drifted back and forth just a little bit quite frequently, but it was normal, just something to get used to. I filled it up with gas which was $140 worth of gas, it’s a very large tank, using the company credit card they gave me obviously. We went back to the office and Hailey showed me and Gabby everything power and plumbing related about setting up the RV. There’s a lot that goes into it so it took awhile but both Gabby and I agreed that it was a lot easier then we thought it might be. After all the training stuff was done Gabby and I went to Sierra to get hats because we forgot them and it’s pretty chilly here, especially with the wind. We went to 5 Guys for dinner and were talking just getting to know each other for like 2 hours. It was nice to hear more about who she is and to be able to tell her more about who I am, especially since we only just met yesterday and it feels like we’re becoming friends already.

Day 3 – 3/15 – Setting up the RV and Training (Milwaukee WI) We had breakfast in the hotel again and then went to the office to set up the beds and putting some stuff away in the RV. We had some trouble getting the generator going, and it was also pretty miserable weather all day. After we set everything up went went back in the office and we went over stuff with Haley. That was things like blowing up the finish line and getting our apps and stuff set up. We also went through the weekly schedule and the daily schedule. She also gave us a lot of examples of things that might happen on the road while answering our questions so we were talking with her for awhile. After that me and Gabby went to a sandwich place for dinner where I got a pretty good French dip. But by the time we were done there was ice coming down instead of rain but the roads weren’t too bad. We went back to the hotel kind of early and I watched a lot of the Oscars.

Day 4 – 3/16 – Snowstorm and last training stuff (Milwaukee WI) A snowstorm came through and we got like 6 inches of snow so Haley pushed back our final training until 4pm. So Gabby and I had breakfast in the hotel and we came up with some sort of plan for the way we are going to LA. We left the hotel and I accidentally drove the wrong way against traffic because the snow made the lanes for the round about outside of the hotel very weird. We went to lunch at this place called Revere’s where we tried playing a game they had and I had a salmon BLT. It was very windy and snowy outside, almost blizzard conditions but it wasn’t super dangerous or anything. Then we went to Walmart to do our first grocery trip along with some supplies. We met Haley at the office to put our groceries in the RV fridge and then we went inside to do some media and crewing training stuff. It wasn’t too long really, and we went back to the hotel. Both me and Gabby did laundry and I got to talk to my parents on the phone before bed.
